Netizens revealed that Romantic Princess copied Goong- Hong Kong apple daily
Angela Chang who starred in Romantic Princess last year, had been to Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong to promote the series recently. The drama is currently being broadcasted in a particular channel, but the response had been so-so only. Netizens expressed that they are discontented with the exaggerated and boring plot. Some people even pointed out that the plot of Romantic Princess is similar to the Korean Drama, Goong, which Yoon Eun Hye starred in.
Numerous similarities in plot
After watched the first episodes of both dramas, Ling Ling Fa already realised the similarities in both of the dramas which are both adapted from manga. Firstly, Romantic Princess is about a poor girl (acted by Angela Chang), who found out one day that she's the grand daughter of a millionaire. She became lover with the young master, Wu Zun in the end. Goong is about an ordinary high school student (acted by Yoon Eun Hye), who was told by her parents that she had to marry the Crown Prince, Joo Ji Hoon and as a result, she became rich overnight.
With regards to the characters, the male lead, Wu Zun and Joo Ji Hoon both seemed to be a cold rich guy on the outside but are actually friendly on the inside. In the end, both of their cold hearts will be melted by the warm-hearted female leads. Its almost like the same format. To add on, the lavish setting created and the body guards as well as the luxurious house and car which drive them is almost the same. Even though Romantic Princess was largely attacked by netizens, Wu Zun's mood was not affected. He even wrote on his blog and shared with his fans about his feelings during his 2 months promotional events. He said that he felt very fulfilling being able to see familiar faces on the trip, and also able to taste delicious delicacies from the various countries even though his schedule was tiring.

Yeah, I've watched both Romantic Princess and Goong and mentioned in my previous post that the plot of Romantic Princess seems abit familiar to Goong+ Meteor Garden.
But I think most Kdrama plots which I've watched so far are almost the same. Poor girl turned rich overnight and got into a relationship with a rich guy and they'll end up together in the end. That's like the main guideline for Korean dramas. Goong, Full House, My Girl, My Lovely Kim Sam Soon and even Coffee Prince kind of followed this style. Taiwan drama Meteor Garden and Romantic Princess followed this plot as well. So I think there's no need to single out Romantic Princess and say that its a copy of Goong since there are alot of dramas with the same guideline as well and its unavoidable that there's similarities.
Well, most dramas revolve around love and relationships and the only difference between them is how the love and relationships are being developed and shown.

Romantic Princess
I've finally finished watching Romantic Princess after leaving it there for so long. Well I find the later episodes more enjoyable to watch(ep7 to 13). Although the show may be abit lame and stupid at some point, its quite funny overall.
I like the part in episode 7 where Jin grabbed a women's top and said its nice, and insisted that guys can try it too coz the design is nice. So he went to the fitting room and tried on low cut the woman's top coz Xiao Mai wanted to have some time alone with him and asked him to get some clothes and go into the fitting room to "try" them.
Ep9: Besides that I think the part in episode 9, where each of the 4 guys took turns to go to Xiao Mai to give her food was really sweet. Then the idea of a vacation and everyone having their individual motives and plans were quite amusing as well.
Ep10- Jin found out Muo Li like Cai.Jin nv tell Xiao Mai abt his plan and Xiao Mai nv tell Jin abt the fact tt Muo Li is a fake. So Jin dunno about it also. If Xiao Mai told Jin abt it things wouldn't be as complicated....
Well maybe I've watched too much Kdrama, but this drama is quite different from the other dramas I've watched before. Usually in a drama, the lead would be quarrelling and argueing alot with each other before they made up. But in this drama there seems to be very very little arguing between Xiao Mai and Jin. They were quite a peaceful couple. But it would have been better if there's more sweet moments of Jin and Xiao Mai together....

Romantic Princess (Gong Zhu Xiao Mei) Vs Goong+Meteor Garden

Watched the first episode of Romantic Princess. Somehow I feel that the drama reminds me of Goong+ Meteor Garden... There's the 4 rich guys (including Wu Zun and Calvin Chen from Fahrenheit) who are filthy rich and live the life of a prince. This seems similar to the F4 in Meteor Garden( also made up of 4 guys) which are also well off and are the princes in the eyes of others.
Besides Meteor Garden, it also reminds me of Goong( Princess Hour) as Romantic Princess is also about a ordinary girl who got rich overnight. ChaeGyung in Goong became the princess overnight and moved in to the palace to enjoy the luxurious life as a princess being waited on by servants. Similarly in Romantic Princess, Xiao Mai (Angela Zhang) live in a poor family and grew up barely being able to make ends meet. However she became a rich girl overnight after her filthy rich biological grandfather decided to search for her and bring her back into the family. Xiao Mai was surprised with how lavish her grandfather's house was and how extravagent they were. The house was like a palace and there were also lotsof servants managing her everyday needs, but Xiao Mai was not used to receiving this kind of service.
Nan Feng Jin (Wu Zun) thought that Xiao Mai was just another imposer who is only after the faimly's fortune, so he treated her badly and was cold towards her. But at the end of episode 1, Feng Jin realised that Xiao Mai may not be a girl who is just after the family's money, and I think that his treatment towards Xiao Mai may change gradually as the story procceed. Doesn't that also reminds us of Shin( Joo Ji Hoon) in Goong? Shin was also cold towards ChaeGyung in the beginning, but we see the warm and caring side of Shin as the story procceeds when he gradually fall for ChaeGyung. I predict that the storyline of Romantic Princess would be along this line as well....
Well the first episode of Romantic Princess did not really impress me. The acting skills of actors and actresses were not very impressive and as mentioned earlier, the plot reminds me of a combination of Goong and Meteor Garden. In the beginning, I find the sobbing scene abit awkward as well. There was no scenes showing how close Xiao Man and her family were before the crying scene where Xiao Man had to leave the family and go to her biological family, hence
when they showed the parting scene of Xiao Man and her parents, the atmosphere buildup was not there and we was not presented with much background knowledge of how her parents had worked hard to bring her up, so the audience could not really connect with them and feel the sadness of their departure. In my opinion, the scene seems to be thrown in just for the sack of it that they just HAD to cry when they depart, if not it would seems weird.
The only positive comment I had about the show is the light humor which are present in the show.
Even though I may not be attracted by the plot or the acting skills of the cast, I may watch further episodes just because of Wu Zun. He's really hot and is an eyecandy to look at. I don't mind watching the show just looking out for him...
